Project: "200 x
2010"
The Faculty of Law, founded by Friedrich
Carl von Savigny, celebrated its 200th anniversary
in 2010. Von
Savigny developed the dogmatic approach to German private
law as well as the discipline of so-called private international law, two of the
formative methodologies in
private law and international legal
thinking.
The first class of the European Law School
will graduate in 2010. The graduation ceremony will
be a central part
of the anniversary celebrations. Thus
the legal idea, ever more important in a Europe of agreements
and federations, is further advanced and the foundation for this idea, for a Europe
of solidarity and friendship, is strengthened.
2010 is the first goal we have set after the opening of the European Law School. As our next
goal after this, within the next two
years, the Foundation Humboldt European
Law School aims to build up a
strong working relationship with at least 200 law firms;
these firms will contribute 2.010 € to our endowment and
they will be acknowledged publicly as sponsors and partners
of the European Law School on a board in our rooms in the the imperial palace. The sponsors will also be invited to our
summer graduation festivals – either in
London, Paris or Berlin.
We hope, with the European Law School,
founded by three great European universities, to strengthen the
idea of genuinely “European”
education, and to play an important part in the the
German and European law landscape.
